Eve from Wall-E Amigurumi

Here's something quick I crocheted last week.

I found this cute little pattern while browsing Ravelry.  My car needed to go into the shop which meant waiting, but I didn't want to start a project that had too many pieces or colors, so I chose her.  Redheart: Super Saver yarn and a G hook.  Her face and eyes are felt that I sewed into place.  She was a really simple and short project, so it was a nice break from some of my bigger things.

Giant Pillow Squid

One day I was looking for a fun DIY and I found the 8 ft. long Squid Pillow.

Yes.  It's giant.  It's bigger than me.  It was also a ton of fun to make.  This was definitely one of my larger projects.  I think it took... five bags of Polyfil to stuff him, and those long tentacles were a pain to turn... but all in all he turned out swimmingly.  I'd also like to point out that my socks match the squid matches my shirt matches my earrings.

I made him out of fleece instead of felt (except for the eyes)... and that made a dent in my wallet.  He's machine sewn, except for the eyes.  Those were handsewn on.

The Lonely Hunter Painting

I felt like I needed some proof that I do more than crochet.  The whole crochet and amigurumi thing is actually rather new.  So, time for something I've been doing for years: painting.

It's an oldie, but a goody.  I painted this back in February.  It was... around 3 am when I started it, and I quit at around 6 am, mostly finished.  I did touch-ups the following week.  This is probably one of the bigger things I've painted, at 14" x 16".  I really liked the painting, but I kind of made it with the intention of giving it to the members of The Lonely Hunter (a local band I like)  I eventually got the painting to its target owners and it was a tearful, needlessly awkward goodbye/gift—sans tears.

And for some reason I really wanted to make a digital version.  Probably so that I could always have a version... and also because black and white is really easy to clean up!

Chinchou Amigurumi

Normally I'm content to follow a pattern for my crochet exploits, but this week I decided to venture into the world of designing patterns.  Or as I like to call it "making it up as I go" land...

For some reason I chose to make Chinchou.  I... I don't even know.   I think it was the fact that I already had the colors that brought him to mind.  His design was also really simple, so it was definitely something I could handle.  I really like how he turned out as well.

He looks bald without his... tail/antennae hanging over his head.  But somehow... cute as well.  It's fun to tote Chinchou around by the antennae, and also to fling him about and hang him on things.  Yet he's always smiling... like Goldfish crackers... they smile until you bite their heads off.

So cute!  My usual MO—Red Heart: Super Saver yarn and a G hook.

Barn Owlet Amigurumi

Owls are totally the popular thing right now, so why not crochet one?  Personally, my favorite owls are in the barn owl family.  There's something about those little heart shaped faces that's incredibly endearing.  Sooty owls look just like barn owls; only gray.  I read a lot of Guardians of Ga'Hoole in my younger years so I've named her Dustytuft... except I'm pretty sure that in the books that was totally a male owl.

This was a Ravelry pattern.  I have no idea what the gray yarn is... it's been in my stash for quite some time.  The other yarns are of course Red Heart: Super Saver.  Again, worked with my G hook.

I also decided to give her a tail.  The pattern didn't provide instructions for one, so I made it up on the fly.  </bad bird pun>

Red Angry Bird Amigurumi

I love the Angry Birds.  There's just something about their passionate love for destruction that just makes me adore them.

Of course when I saw the pattern I knew I needed to make one.  Unfortunately the patterns had to be taken down, but you can see the rest of the birds here.  As usual; RedHeart: SuperSaver with a G hook.

He surveys the playing field, mentally creating a strategy...  I don't think I'm going to name him; I will simply refer to him as ANGRY BURD.  It seems appropriate.  While I do love the red bird, my favorite angry bird is actually the bomb bird.  He's simply the best there is.  Though the FAT red bird comes in second place.

Fly birdy, fly!

Togekiss Amigurumi

Togekiss is definitely one of my favorite Pokemon, so when I found this pattern I knew that it was meant to be.  I call him Oleander, named after my in-game Togekiss.  I'd like to think this little guy is as hardcore as his namesake.

Look at him and his majesty!  I'm still overly pleased with how his little wing curlicues turned out.  They look really nice.  I was also surprised that he was able to stand.

I didn't get any good pictures of his tail, but I modified the pattern for that.  I wanted it to look more like Togekiss's design so I... uh... am not really sure what I did.  The tail feathers are stacked on top of each other, I guess.

He's all Red Heart: Super Saver yarn.  I think... I was recently gifted with a bunch of yarn so I'm not quite sure.  Worked with a G Hook.  It was a really simple pattern to follow; the most complicated part was piecing together the wing curls.  Even then, it wasn't a problem.

Night Fury Amigurumi

I've been looking for a good Night Fury ami pattern since... well, I learned how to crochet.  I stumbled upon this one by accident.  I don't even know how I got there.  But I fell in love.

The pattern was really easy to follow.  The most complicated thing I had to do was make the toes, and even then I didn't have a problem.  The toes are so cute!

I used Red Heart: Super Savers - Black yarn for this, and I worked it with my trusty G hook.  The eyes are felt that's been sewn into place.  Also, I'd recently broken my plastic tapestry needles so I upgraded to metal needles.  I like them so much more.

I also really liked how the wings turned out.  There was no picture for them so I didn't know how they looked, but they're cute and they look good.  There is no pattern for the tail fins, so I made them up on the spot.  Same for the secondary wing flaps.

Bacon & Eggs Scarf

Presenting the Bacon & Eggs scarf:

I made this scarf for one of my friends.  Originally I had no intention of doing such a thing, but in the end I caved to Matt's incessant pleading... and I also thought it was a really cool idea.

At the time I started this project I didn't know how to crochet.  I learned.  It was harrowing!

The bacon was a wave stitch pattern, and I made it up myself.  I used a J hook and Red Heart: Soft yarn—off white and paprika—and just kind of winged it.  Crocheting this was so much different because I had to work lengthwise!  It’s eight rows wide.  I’d underestimated how long it needed to be and it came up a bit short… how to fix the problem?

Crochet eggs of course.  You won’t believe what you can find online.  It was really easy to find this blog on how to crochet a fried egg.  For this I switched to my G and H hooks.  They were so simple to do… once I figured out the whole working in a round thing.
I gave the scarf to my friend during dinner and he was the most popular guy in the restaurant.  There were people asking him where he bought it, and one guy actually wanted a picture with the scarf.  No lies.  I’ve never felt more awkwardly proud of something I made.
